Charlie Donnelly-Dobson is our current LJMU Artist in Residence, and is finishing off her residency with ‘Charlie’s Arty Party’, featuring special guests and performances!
Charlie’s practice predominantly focuses on performance and installations, creating immersive and interactive environments. She often uses her body and the creation of characters to explore personal experiences / journeys, political discussions or event scores (briefs given by other artists). Collaborations mixed with performance and developing works from collaborative discussions is an important area of her practice. Often, conversations with other artists can be the starting point for not only joint projects but personal projects.
For instance, a conversation about plant weeds let to the creation of a mythology full of characters and gods, that look at personalities of nature in comparison with drug-use, psychedelia and gender identity. Although Charlie’s practice can discuss something different each project there is a recognizable overtone in all of her work, constantly re-using and re-constituting work. She does this so her practice starts to create it’s own mythology. These moments of internal déjà vu also explore the language of psychedelic experiences, just as making work un-seeable (Jamais vu) - for instance the strategy of not being able to see actual performances but only selected documentation.
The exhibition will be open from 6th - 8th May, see you there!
