After a quiet period at The Royal Standard we can finally announce that we have relocated to the Baltic Triangle in Liverpool. After a busy couple of months of working in collaboration with Baltic Creative we can now reveal that our new home can be found within the Northern Lights project, the building which houses The Royal Standard and several other creative ventures, including a restaurant, cafe and a printing company.
The Royal Standard has taken on 11,500 square foot of large industrial space in the old Cains Brewery warehouse with the aim to create affordable studio space for our members, and to provide a critical space for the production and display of contemporary art. The new site has allowed for The Royal Standard to increase the amount of studio members from 40 to 45 artists, whilst also bringing with us well-known project spaces; Cactus, White Wizard, Alma Matters and the LJMU 1.11 Residency. Since the relocation we have also taken on more project rooms including The Trophy Room, FoodSkets as well as exciting new partnerships with other major institutions in the city soon to be announced.
The individual and communal studios available to our studio members have improved in quality, size and sustainability. Studios members, and the further artist-led community, will also benefit from our new multi-purpose social area that is now better suited to act as a creative resource, and includes a library, workshop area and event space. This flexible space offers artists a testing ground to develop their ideas and capabilities, and can be used for spontaneous projects that take place independently to the main gallery programme.
The large purpose-built gallery will allow The Royal Standard to continue to develop an exciting and challenging programme that will showcase the most contemporary and innovative exhibitions and events, whilst working with outstanding emerging and mid-career artists, as well as collaborating with artist-led initiative and more established practitioners.
By making these vital developments to the organisation The Royal Standard is better equipped to act as an accessible resource centre for artists and the wider cultural community, and is also now fully wheelchair accessible.
