Mia Cathcart
Mia Cathcart (b. 1993) is a contemporary portrait painter living and working in Liverpool. She’s interested in the formalities and clichés of traditional portraiture; whereby subjects would be photographed in heavily-clad garments, holding exotic fruits to showcase their wealth and importance, and how she can offer a wry twenty-first century take on this. Often painting ‘crops’ of a portrait; such as a torso, ear, or hand, she explores how portraiture can extend beyond just the ‘face.’
Recent exhibitions include: Output Open 4, Output Gallery, Liverpool 2020, The Other Art Fair, Kings Cross, London (2019), The Female Gaze, Dot-art Gallery, Liverpool (2019), Six of one, Half a dozen of the other, The Newbridge Project, Newcastle (2018).
Mia recently spoke to Oldfield about her work which you can read here.
